Texas checking in...I bought this for my patio, which has a sunshade, but it's so hot! When the feel like temperature is 100+, this little machine, perched on a table facing directly at me within 16" is amazing. Somehow it works well. Humidity is 55%. I ordered the Lavanda (not misspelled) color (which is a very muted color, not so purple as in the pictures, but that's fine because the price point was worth the try). As another reviewer said, you need to let it run for about 20 minutes. I did that inside and then transferred outside. It pushes air that is noticeably cooler than the outside air. Then I turned it off outside and restarted it. Still great! Highly recommend!
I recently ended up with a $900 electric bill thanks to a week of 110 degree days in sunny California, so I decided to look into some alternatives to running central air all day. This little guy seemed to be the most well-reviewed out of all the options for portable air conditioners even though it still had an overall 3.6 rating, but I decided to give it a try. Having tested it out, I gotta say it actually works better than expected and I think some of the negative reviews have had issues for easily avoidable reasons. 1) This is not made to cool an entire room. That's not the point of it. This is for someone who wants to cool down their bed while they're sleeping or set it on their desk to cool down while they're working or maybe place in a corner of the kitchen while cooking. Basically, it's for when you're spending a lot of time in roughly the same spot and don't necessarily need to cool down your entire house. 2) it doesn't work wonders for the first 20 minutes or so. The water needs to soak through the filter cartridge because the water evaporating in a (ideally) dry climate is the science behind cooling the air. Until that happens it's basically just a little box fan. I get the impression some reviewers tested it out for 5 minutes, concluded it doesn't work, and wrote their review. Give it at least 20 minutes and you should definitely notice that it's pushing out air a good 8-10ish degrees cooler than the room temp is. 3) because this relies on water evaporating, it works better in drier climates. If you're in California, Arizona, New Mexico, etc this will work great. If you're in a humid place like Florida, you should frankly leave. 4) Based on what some have mentioned in terms of its air pushing capabilities, it seems like they maybe don't realize there are multiple settings. At its lowest setting I would say they're right: you basically need to have it within 12 inches of you to even notice it's on. However it has 4 settings that you cycle through by pushing the button on top (and there are no other buttons, it's pretty fool-proof). I think the 2nd setting is probably what most people would use while sitting it on their desk or beside their bed (higher settings might actually make you cold at that proximity). At its highest setting it's a bit noisy (like a PC fan at full speed), but I think it would actually be sufficient to cool a small bedroom at that level. If you have something like a 10×10 space or smaller and you don't have high ceilings, this might actually work for cooling the entire room at its highest setting. In a larger space, however, just remember this is made to cool you down while having it a few feet from you, not on the opposite end of where ever you are. I just did a little test and you can feel a cool breeze from 8 feet away at its highest setting. Beyond that you probably won't notice much effect. Also, I didn't notice this when I bought it, but it plugs in using a USB cord so you can power it with your computer or plug it into a power bank and take it on the go. It also only uses 7.5 watts which is literally 3,492.5 watts fewer than the average Central air system. That's not a joke or a typo. On a related note, I've seen some claim the price ($79 as of writing) is a bit steep, but consider that for anyone who works from home or stays in the same area for large parts of the day, this will allow you to kick the thermostat up a few degrees without sweating through your shirt, and then you'll save pretty substantially on each electric bill. It can pay for itself in one billing cycle if you let it, and after that it's actually costing you money not to have one. Overall, I'm perfectly satisfied with this purchase and it actually performs better than reviews had led me to believe. Just remember it's made to cool a roughly 10×10 area or smaller, not your entire estate. If you're ok with that, you'll love it.
Take chill cube into laundry room as folding warm clothes straight from dryer. The airflow keeps the heat from feeling overwhelming.
I cannot say enough good things about this. It has saved me in the heat since my ac is down in my apartment. Yes it's only meant to be directly on you but it will cool you down significantly. Don't listen to these reviews saying it doesn't work. It does! 12/10
The hot days have started here in Spain, and since I work remotely from my home office, it was very important for me to keep my workspace comfortable. I found this device and was really curious to see what it could do. I ordered it, and it was delivered to my home about a week later. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I filled the system with water and tested several different modes. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. The device does exactly what I expected it to do. I set the airflow to maximum, and it provides a pleasant stream of cool air. It is not extremely cold, but it is more than enough to help me work comfortably at my desk. I would definitely recommend it, especially to anyone who works remotely.
With all the mixed reviews I decided to leave one as well, even though I believe this model is discontinued. My experience in a hot fry climate was simply that it did its job. Even when I left it on accidentally the entire night multiple times it still acted as a decent fan. The sound is noticeable on higher levels but not significant. Overall I have had and used mine for over a year with zero issues. Filling can be a bit annoying but I have never had a single issue after likely 200+ operating hours. Perhaps I was simply lucky and just realistic about its cooling capabilities. But I do find with no AC and temps able to reach 100+ it has been worth every penny. My only real complaint would be that I would prefer a reusable filter after cleaning.
First of all, most of the negative reviews here are incorrect. The device is very simple. Fan, + evaporative element=cool air. If the evaporative element cannot 'evaporate' = no cooling. That is 1) if you live in the Midwest or east coast, this device is not for you 2) if you do not ventilate your room, eventually the room will get too humid that the evaporative element cannot evaporate = no cooling. Otherwise if you live in a place with %40-50 humidity it is perfect. Perfect how: on a desk facing towards you cooling only the area around the desk. It cannot cool a room. I see so many reviews with unreasonable expectations. They make it look like there's something wrong with the product. Which is making me upset because that's why I didn't but this sooner (aka last summer). Working from home with no A/C can be challenging in hot summer days. Fans just move the air around they don't cool you. This device is perfect for personal cooling. I've been using it for 4-5 hours on the lowest setting connected to a power bank with 10000mAh capacity, it has not even used up %20 of the juice yet. Room is around 85F temp, humidity ~%50, feels pretty comfortable. I can't say anything about the longevity yet. Fan at the lowest setting is unnoticeable. Anything higher is loud. Loud in a "moving a lot of air through a filter" way. Not like an out of alignment fan making annoying noises. Come on, you cannot expect Dyson quality sound engineering from these guys who probably just made this out of Kickstarter money. It is unreasonable. Unless there is some quality issues with the fan I don't see this device failing anytime soon because it's pretty well made. There's nothing else out there like this. I would buy again as a gift.
The evaporative cooling technology is old-school and under the right conditions it works great. This is NOT an air conditioner, so if you are expecting something similar to a window unit or car AC you will be disappointed. It can't cool down a large, hot room. But what it can do, it does really well! Where I live it can get really dry. My husband and I sleep in an upstairs bedroom that is always 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. In the winter if we lower the heater temperature, our daughter gets cold downstairs in her room. In the Sumner if we try to cool off the upstairs with our central AC, it freezes the downstairs. I have vintage windows that won't hold a window unit, and if I open a window at night to sleep, my allergies go crazy. This little cooler has been amazing to both drop the temperature and raise the humidity. Plus, the drier the air, the cooler it gets. Evap coolers dont work well in humid climate at all. I found that out when I lived in Texas. I put a thermometer directly in front of the grill of the EvaChill as it was blowing, and in my 85 degree room with 21% humidity the air coming out was 68 degrees! I put the cooler right next to our bed, on my side, blowing across us... and my husband had to pull up the covers because it was cold. I cannot say enough great things about this little machine. A full reservoir of water lasts about 3 hours in dry conditions. The tank is super easy to fill. It is cute and modern and small and innocuous. The fan is quiet and practically nonexistent compared to my air purifier. The highest setting makes quite a breeze, and the lowest is perfect to just humidify the air. It pumps out way more moisture than my cool mist humidifier. I LOVE not waking up with dry eyes. I keep it next to the bed, but it would be great in a hot office or cubicle, too. I have only had it a few weeks and I use it every night, so I'm hoping it lasts. Its like falling asleep in an ocean breeze. And a treat for anyone who suffers from hot flashes or night sweats. I LOVE EvaChill!
I like it a lot. It's size and portability is exactly what I wanted. It's true that it doesn't cool like an air conditioner, nor can it cool a whole room, but it throws out a stream of cold air that is very effective at close range. It draws very little power and the water tank will last for 4 or 5 hours before needing refilling (depending on what speed it's on). I also like the specially designed funnel provided to fill the tank with... a nice touch. And the soft blue light is pretty cool too!
EvaChill produces cool (not cold) air 30 to 60 centimeters in front of the device. My desk is located far from A/C and I get really hot. It does it's job perfectly in cooling my small desk space area while at work and keeps me cool. I'm really happy with it.
